Magnitude 4.1 earthquake shakes Northern California

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.1 shook roughly 37 miles north of Santa Rosa in Northern California on Monday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake, which struck at 7:08 a.m., had an epicenter 0.5 miles from The Geysers, an area of frequent seismic activity and the site of the world’s largest developed geothermal field.

The quake, which had a depth of 2.0 km, was reported to have been felt by 65 people as of 7:40 a.m. It was followed only minutes later by an aftershock with a preliminary magnitude of 2.8.
