A recent road trip from Sacramento to Fort Bragg led one traveler through the Clear Lake region. The vast lake, with its seemingly untapped potential for beauty, left a strong impression. However, the surrounding towns appeared to be stuck in a time warp, seemingly frozen in the mid-90s. The local economy seemed to be driven by less than legal means, and the traveler was left wondering why this place exists as it does. Why hasn’t more investment been made to develop the area into a thriving tourist destination with resorts, craft breweries, and fishing tourism?
