Stranded Marin Hiker Snatched Off Yolanda Trail in Daring Airlift

A hiker stranded on the Yolanda Trail in Marin County last Friday was hoisted to safety and flown to a waiting ambulance after a tightly choreographed air-and-ground rescue, authorities said. Crews used a helicopter hoist to pull the person from the hillside, then transferred the hiker to ground medical personnel. Officials have not released any details about the person’s injuries or condition.

CHP’s H-32 helicopter was dispatched after Ross Valley Fire and Marin County Fire requested aerial support, and the chopper crew teamed up with Marin County Search and Rescue and a specialized rescue paramedic to reach the hiker, as reported by FOX26 (KMPH). According to the station, rescuers were able to hoist the hiker off the trail and airlift them to an ambulance staged nearby.

How crews pulled it off

Agency posts and local reporting indicate the operation demanded close coordination between aircraft and ground teams, with additional CHP air units on standby while Marin Search and Rescue worked the slope. Brief on-site training with SAR crews was also incorporated into the response by another CHP team during the incident, according to Hoodline.
