When Claudia H. Long turned 70, she decided she was done waiting.
“Infinity doesn’t stretch quite so far at 70,” she said.
That realization now lives at 1125 Lincoln Ave. in Calistoga, where Long has opened Read Head Books, a used bookstore stocked with more than 2,000 volumes she’s collected over decades. The shop soft-opened Oct. 26, capping off a lifelong dream that nearly became a mobile one.
Long, who lives in Calistoga with her husband, isn’t easing into retirement. She’s a lawyer and a published author with eight books to her name, all of which are also on sale in her store. For years, she had been hunting for the right vacant space for a used bookstore. When one deal fell through at the last minute, she pivoted quickly.
