The Santa Rosa Police Department apprehended a man after a high-speed chase that started at a DUI checkpoint and ended with a crash and a notable drug bust. The whole operation unfolded yesterday around 8 PM, when officers at the DUI checkpoint signaled 44-year-old Ruben Soto to pull over for secondary screening.
The suspect, in his flight from the checkpoint, weaved through the city streets and tore onto eastbound Highway 12 and then took to southbound Highway 101; pushing speeds between 65 to 90 mph, this chase drew to an abrupt halt when Soto attempted to exit the freeway at Petaluma Boulevard North, where he collided with a center divider, the collision effectively immobilizing his vehicle. After refusing to comply with the officers’ commands to exit his crashed vehicle for about five minutes, Soto was eventually detained without further incident, according to a social media post from the Santa Rosa Police.
