Copper wire thieves trash Santa Rosa school, leave thousands in damage: PD

(KRON) — Two unhoused men face multiple charges after police said they broke in through gym windows at Santa Rosa Middle School (SRMS) and caused “significant damage,” according to Santa Rosa Police Department.

The total amount of damage has not yet been determined, but police believe it may “exceed several thousand dollars.”

SRPD said officers responded at 10:25 a.m. Monday for a report of a burglary when the aftermath was discovered by a Santa Rosa City Schools District (SRCS) basketball coach. The coach had arrived for an open court session at the gym and saw that white paper was being used to cover the windows from the inside.

“District employees and the officer walked through the facility and found damage and disruption to not only the gym, but also to several administrative offices, classrooms, the library, and storage rooms,” said SRPD in a news release. “Some of the damage included interior doors that had been pried or kicked open, ransacked offices and shattered windows, damaged wrestling mats, and copper piping stripped from an electronic control board. Several areas were also littered with trash.”…
