Healdsburg puppies found abandoned in locked crate

(KRON) — The Healdsburg Police Department is thanking a concerned citizen after officers were alerted to a large “crate full of puppies” that was abandoned near a road New Year’s Eve morning.

The seven puppies were “secured with zip ties” in the area of Westside Road and Bacchus Landing, according to HPD.

Police said officers spotted an eighth puppy running nearby, but they were unable to catch the frightened pup.

The animals are now in the care of Sonoma County Animal Services (SCAS), whom police said, will continue to search for the loose pup.

“While we understand that it is not always feasible to take care of animals, we ask that if there are animals that are in need of being rehomed, please do not leave them the way these puppies were left,” said Healdsburg police in a social media post. “Contact your local animal shelter or animal control and leave them in their care.”…
