Santa Rosa pedestrian, 70, in critical condition after New Year’s Eve hit-and-run

A Monterey County man turned himself in after allegedly striking an elderly pedestrian in Santa Rosa on New Year’s Eve, leaving him in critical condition.

Santa Rosa Police responded just after 7 p.m. Thursday to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at Morgan Street and College Avenue, the department said in a statement. They found a 70-year-old man lying in the roadway, as well as the bumper and license plate of a blue 2019 Toyota Tacoma.

About 24 minutes later, 31-year-old Brigido Pena Villanueva of Greenfield called department dispatchers and told them he was in Cotati, in the area of Highway 116 and Highway 101. Officers from the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety located the suspect and waited with him until Santa Rosa police arrived.
