Police arrest man armed with a knife in Santa Rosa

(KRON) — Police arrested an individual armed with a knife in Santa Rosa Saturday morning, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD).

At approximately 11:09 a.m., officers responded to a report of an adult male allegedly using a large knife to cut trees along the west side of the road, near the 300 block of Fulton Road.

Police reported locating the subject as he turned eastbound onto Occidental Road. The male was carrying a large, fixed-blade knife and making stabbing motions in the air and at times, concealing the knife on his person, SRPD noted.

Officers said they remained with the individual attempting to contain his movements and limit public access to the area while utilizing de-escalation techniques, providing verbal commands in both English and Spanish, repeatedly instructing the male to drop the weapon.

The subject refused to comply with verbal directives and continued to walk away from the scene while brandishing the knife, according to SRPD. The male then made a sudden lunging movement toward one of the officers with the knife.
