(KRON) — The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested a wanted felon on Thursday after a vehicle pursuit turned into a water pursuit on River Road.

In a social media post, SCSO said the chase began when the suspect fled from a vehicle in the 11800 block of River Road and ran toward the Russian River. The individual swam across the Russian River then tried to hide near the 13000 block of Riverside Drive.
“The suspect then led deputies on an extended chase lasting over an hour, swimming westbound in the Russian River, repeatedly exiting the water and re-entering the river in an attempt to evade capture,” said the sheriff’s office.
Henry 1, the sheriff’s helicopter, continued to track the suspect and their location in the river.
A marine unit sergeant with SCSO, with an assist from a California State Parks lifeguard, eventually entered the water and rescued the suspect. They were arrested after being brought to shore, according to the sheriff’s office…
