It’s been a messy year for one historic Marin County dive bar. First, there was the car crash, which resulted in extensive damage and a heavy financial burden for the longtime steward of the space. And now comes news that a new ownership group has stepped in, with plans to get the repair project across the finish line — and hopefully in time for a big March party.
The Silver Peso, at 450 Magnolia Ave. in Larkspur, was recently acquired by Max Perry and Conor Flaherty, two owners of Sam’s Anchor Cafe in Tiburon. They bought the business from the previous owner, Rebel Lee, who had been the life force of the bar for the past 25 years. Perry and Flaherty, both of whom went to Redwood High School and have personal history with the bar, say that they plan to keep its essence intact. And, if all goes well, they hope to have the bar open again in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
“We’re really excited about preserving a local institution such as The Peso,” Perry told SFGATE in a phone interview. “There are really very few spots left that are like it within the Marin community. So it’s just an opportunity to protect something authentic.”…
