Reminder on electric scooter and bike safety rules
The City of Rohnert Park reminds parents and guardians about California laws for electric scooters and bicycle safety. Under state law, a juvenile must have a valid driver’s learning permit from the DMV and be at least 15½ years old to ride an electric scooter legally. Many local riders do not meet this rule and may receive citations.
If a juvenile is cited for scooter or bicycle safety violations, they must appear in Juvenile Traffic Court at the Hall of Justice, 600 Administration Dr, Room 109J, in Santa Rosa, CA 95403. Court starts at 1:00 p.m., and a parent or guardian must attend. The Department of Public Safety will increase enforcement and will not offer diversion options.
