Santa Rosa: Man Gets 50-Years-To-Life For 2024 Dutton Plaza Shootings

A Santa Rosa man with three prior strike offenses was sentenced to 50 years to life in state prison for attempted murder and other violent crimes, the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

Steven Strawn, 43, was convicted last November of two counts of attempted murder, assault with and being in possession of an assault weapon, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

In September 2024, Strawn was at the Dutton Plaza shopping center harassing patrons and a passerby on the nearby Joe Rodota Trail. When asked to leave, Strawn got into the passenger’s seat of his 43-year-old friend Jared Ambrose’s Pontiac and pulled out an illegal assault rifle. As Ambrose drove the car, Strawn fired at both the person who interceded and another person taking a picture. Neither person was struck because Strawn missed them and then his rifle jammed…
