Marin crash: Judge rules CHP personnel records won’t factor into case against teen driver

The personnel records of a California Highway Patrol officer who investigated a crash that killed four teens last year would not factor into the case against the teen driver facing manslaughter charges, a Marin County Superior Court judge said Wednesday.

During a private review in his chambers, Judge James Chou determined that there was nothing in CHP officer Eric Dellevoet’s files that could undermine the officer’s credibility as a witness in the case of a 17-year-old girl accused of driving a car full of her friends before crashing in Woodacre last April.

Prosecutors asked to review Dellevoet’s personnel records last month using what’s known as a Pitchess motion. Generally, such motions are filed in order to evaluate whether something in an officer’s background could impact a case…
