Three more Sonoma County cities slated to cut ties with North Bay Animal Services

Three more Sonoma County cities are set to join Petaluma and Clearlake in cutting ties with North Bay Animal Services, the Petaluma-based animal shelter that has come under greater fire after a 2025 Sonoma County grand jury report cited the operator for failing to follow state laws and industry standards meant to protect pets and ensure public safety.

On Tuesday, the Sebastopol City Council is slated to terminate its contract with North Bay Animal Services effective March 31 and award a three-month interim contract to the Humane Society of Sonoma County for sheltering services. The city’s contract with the Petaluma nonprofit, worth $15,750 a year, has been in place since July 1, 2022.
