Santa Rosa man’s plight a cautionary tale about loan option that offers seniors relief — but with high stakes

G. Raymond Boccaleoni planned to spend the rest of his days in the southwest Santa Rosa home where’s he lived for 54 years. It’s where he and his wife raised four boys, where his grandchildren and great grandchildren have come during the summer to barbecue and swim in the pool the family built in the backyard. It’s where he cared for his wife at the end of her life.

But, now the 85-year-old veteran is fighting to remain in place after losing his house to his mortgage lender. While fending off his eviction, with the help of Legal Aid of Sonoma County, Boccaleoni is suing Carrington Mortgage Services, alleging wrongful foreclosure his attorney said fits into a broader pattern of questionable practices by the nationwide lender.

Carrington officials declined an interview request for this story, citing pending litigation. Messages to the company’s lawyer in the eviction case and another involved foreclosure attorney went unanswered…
