Standing upwards of 50 feet and having survived the strongest of storms, a centuries-old Heritage oak tree serves as a gateway and key landmark to a West Sonoma County community between Forestville and Sebastopol.
Pacific Gas & Electric has targeted the tree on Bones Road for removal since 2024 because of its proximity to a utility line. Residents there say the tree, estimated by an arborist to be at least 250 years old and healthy, is now on tap to be cut down Thursday and they’re urging PG&E and even lawmakers to grant them “a stay of execution.”
“This tree kind of brought people together when word got around the tree was threatened with removal,” said Mark Barlow, a Bones Road resident of 45 years. “The neighborhood really came together to support it.”…
