Red Bug Slough Preserve

Running diagonally through neighborhoods in south Sarasota, Red Bug Slough Preserve surrounds its namesake waterway.

Once a chain of marshes filtering slowly towards Phillippi Creek, the slough was dredged and channelized in the 1960s to facilitate flood control among these residental developments.

From multiple walk-in entrances and two trailheads, explore this 72 acre preserve along a network of footpaths branching off two accessible walkways.

Interpretive panels and numbered markers help with understanding the habitats and where you are in the maze of trails.
