7-year-old Sarasota boy fights extremely rare disease

SARASOTA, Fla. (SNN TV) — A 7-year-old Sarasota boy has been diagnosed with a rare disease.

He is currently in Pennsylvania receiving treatment that will cost nearly $5 million. Steven Bauer was at school when his teachers noticed that he was not his normal self.

He is suffering from Metachromatic Leukodystrophy, or MLD. Steven, your average, energetic, and silly kid, was at school when his teachers noticed something was amiss.

“Around December, they (his teachers) contacted us to have a meeting, and they informed us that he was having trouble writing and having these tremors,” said Caitlin Bauer, Steven’s Mom. “He was also tripping over himself when he walked.”…
