Suncoast metro area ranks 15th deadliest in nation for pedestrian fatalities

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota metro area now ranks 15th deadliest in the nation for pedestrian fatalities, according to Smart Growth America’s “Dangerous by Design” report.

The ranking marks a troubling trend for the region, which has climbed from 19th in 2022 and 17th in 2024. The report, which ranks all 50 states and the largest 101 metro areas by pedestrian fatality rates, found 153 people were killed while walking in the Suncoast region between 2020 and 2024.
