SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Average rain in July is 7.39” at SRQ. We may never know how much fell at SRQ – On July 23rd, lightning hit the weather sensing equipment at SRQ, and there have been no rain measurements for the last week of July there. Other Sarasota areas reported over 7” to 8” of rain. Bradenton was over 11” for July, southeast of Venice over 12”, and Englewood was over 13”! Only isolated thunderstorms develop Saturday.
Starting Sunday, showers and thunderstorms will become more frequent across the Suncoast. The pattern will be fairly consistent: storms will develop over the Gulf waters to our west and move onshore, particularly during the late night and early morning hours. You’ll likely see breaks in the rain during the mid to late afternoon. This rain could be significant. With deep tropical moisture already in place over west central Florida, storms that develop will be capable of producing brief, heavy rainfall. That brings the chance of minor flooding or ponding water on roads.

The National Hurricane Center is not expecting any tropical cyclone formation over the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, or Gulf over the next seven days. The Suncoast remains clear of any tropical threats as we head through the week.
