Teachers get a raise. Residents say it isn’t enough

SARASOTA — At its first evening meeting in nearly a year, the Sarasota County School Board passed a teacher’s union-approved salary increase for full-time teachers.

The increase, an amount funded and decided by the state Legislature, will only go to basic instruction, exceptional student education, career education and adult education teachers who have taught for 10 years in a Florida public school.

All staff will receive their contractual 0.5% salary increase but the veteran teachers will get an extra, equal share of the state-allocated funds…
