SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The Suncoast is locked in a classic, highly humid summer weather pattern as deep tropical moisture remains pinned over our area, squeezed southward by a frontal boundary resting to our north. Local residents should prepare for heavy downpours, typical afternoon and evening thunderstorms, and oppressive heat as we head through the middle of the week.

The Commute and School Drop-Off Forecast
If you are heading out early Tuesday morning, you may encounter some damp conditions:
- Morning Commute: Expect a few scattered coastal showers (about a 30% chance) during the morning commute and school drop-off.
- Afternoon Build-up: Storms will begin to develop inland along the sea breeze front in the early afternoon, particularly picking up around 3:00 PM.
- Evening Shift: An easterly wind shift later in the day will push those lingering inland storms back toward the coast and beaches by Tuesday evening.
This pattern of morning coastal showers transitioning to late-day coastal-bound storms is expected to stick around through at least Wednesday and Thursday.
Oppressive Heat: Feels Like 100°+
While the actual air temperature will hover in the upper 80s—around 87°F to 89°F from Palmetto down to Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota, Venice, North Port, and Englewood—the extreme humidity is making it feel much hotter.
- Feels-Like Temps: By Tuesday afternoon, the “soup-like” atmosphere will push heat index values (feels-like temperatures) to between 102°F and 104°F by noon.
- Flooding Potential: While regional rivers and streams are not currently facing flooding issues, the localized downpours from slow-moving storms carry a lingering potential for minor street flooding.
