SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. – Scammers are spoofing phone numbers of Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office victim advocates to trick local residents into sending money, authorities warned Thursday.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the agency has received multiple reports of fraudsters impersonating its staff. The callers use software to mimic real agency phone numbers, making incoming calls appear to come directly from official law enforcement personnel.
