At 13, Champ Jaxon to release second album

ENGLEWOOD — At 13, Jackson Champ Winkler, frontman of the Champ Jaxon Band, is getting ready to launch his second album.

The popular Southwest Florida band’s live album, titled “An Evening with Champ Jaxon,” will be available Friday. It features new songs “Gas Station Tie-Dye” and “Homework Blues.”

The original singles were recorded and filmed in 2023 at Troll Music in Venice.

“Music is a giant part of my life,” said Champ, who has been playing since the age of 3. “I don’t ever remember a time I didn’t play the guitar. I took lessons and had a really great music teacher.”

The psychedelic-blues-rock band is made up of Jaxon, his father, Nate Winkler, who is the band’s manager and rhythm guitarist, Brent Adam on drums, and Nick Rosado on bass. They’ve been together for four years.

The Englewood eighth-grader said he’s inspired to write songs and create new guitar solos by most anything in his life. He loves video games, football, LEGO and Marvel movies.

“It rapidly happens,” he said. “I can hear something from a video game or a pop song and get an idea to create my own guitar lick or solo.”
