A FL BBQ Eatery Returned To Its “Roots,” But Closed Due Not Enough “Foot Traffic To Keep Us Going”

There are arguably many things that a restauranteur can attempt to control – such as the quality of their food, the friendliness of their service, and the presentation of their choices.

However, some things are arguably outside of a restaurant’s control – such as rent increases, lease issues, and declining traffic. And it seems some of these uncontrollable variables may have led to the closure of a popular Florida barbecue restaurant.

About Nancy’s BBQ: This creative barbecue restaurant initially started as a side hustle for Nancy Krohngold, who was originally a graphic designer. To supplement her income, Krohngold began selling barbecue pork on the premises of private businesses that allowed her to use their property. Word of mouth meant that she often had long lines.

Eventually, Nancy would have two locations – one in Sarasota and another in Lakewood Ranch. The Sarasota location closed in 2020 due to an inability to renew the lease, and Lakewood Ranch followed in 2023.

In August of 2023, Nancy returned to downtown Sarasota and opened again in the old Oasis Restaurant & Bar space. At that time, Nancy told Sarasota Magazine:
