Furry Scurry raises money for animal causes

SOUTH GULF COVE — More than a hundred dogs and their owners took to the streets Saturday for the Fourth annual South Gulf Cove CCT Furry Scurry 5k Walk/Run.

The event was hosted by the Conservancy and Community Trust of South Gulf Cove Inc. Formed in 2003, the nonprofit organization supports community improvement programs while also helping the environment.

Since its inception, the event has raised more than $40,000 for area animal rescues, shelters and support organizations.

Prizes were given for winners of the races, which included a 5K for humans, a 3.1-mile “Mutt Strut” course for dogs and their walkers, and a shorter 1.5-mile “Mutt Strutt” course for dogs not up for the longer walk.
