Motorcyclist killed in Interstate 75 wreck

NORTH PORT — A motorcyclist was killed in a multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 75 on Sunday.

According to a news release from Florida Highway Patrol, at about 2:47 a.m. Sunday, a 25-year-old North Port man was riding a motorcycle southbound near Mile Marker 180 near the Toledo Blade exit when his vehicle struck the back of a sedan.

The sedan was driven by a 26-year-old Estero man.

The 25-year-old North Port man was separated from his motorcycle. In the middle of the interstate, the motorcyclist was then struck by a southbound semi-truck and another sedan.

The semi was driven by a 45-year-old Orlando man and the second sedan was driven by a 38-year-old Orlando man.

None of the other drivers nor their passengers were injured.

While the news release states authorities believe the motorcyclist was a North Port resident, it states positive identification has not been verified. It is unclear if the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation.
