VENICE — A local GOP group has accused the Republican Party of Sarasota County of launching a “baseless, frivolous, and spurious lawsuit” against it.
America First SWFL Caucus issued a news release Wednesday to preview a “special announcement” on that lawsuit for Aug. 14.
In that release, America First SWFL representatives alleged that the Sarasota County GOP and the Republican Party of Florida had conspired to restrict their group’s First Amendment rights.
“The local and state GOP leadership is being despicable,” said James Hoel, president of the group, in a statement to the media.
“The leadership of the Republican Party of Sarasota County and the Republican Party of the state of Florida are ganging up on a small group of America First patriots … who had the audacity to liberate its members from the repressive clutches of a corrupt and deceitful greedy gang of political cronies.”
Hoel and other America First SWFL officers were previously officers of the Republican Club of South Sarasota County.
