Flooding Continues at Myakka River State Park
The National Weather Service has extended a Flood Warning for the Myakka River at Myakka River State Park in Sarasota County, warning of minor flooding that is already occurring and expected to continue. As of 8:00 PM on Thursday, the river’s stage was measured at 7.9 feet, just below its recent crest of 8.0 feet, which surpasses the flood stage of 7.0 feet. The river is forecast to remain steady at 7.8 feet, keeping it above flood stage until further notice.
Impact on Myakka River State Park
The flooding has already impacted the main road within Myakka State Park, which begins to flood when the river reaches 8.0 feet. The current water levels are comparable to a previous crest recorded on July 5, 2002, when the river also reached 7.9 feet. Visitors to the park and motorists in the area are advised to avoid flooded areas, as roads may be impassable.
