Experimenting, exploring and creating with oil paints

VENICE — Linda Pica was born and raised in the upper Midwest and enjoyed a rewarding career in healthcare administration and teaching at local colleges and universities in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

“Retirement” became a pivot point to allow her lifelong passion for art and oil painting to take center stage.

“Accidentally finding the Venice Art Center while vacationing with my husband more than six years ago was certainly influential in eventually calling Venice ‘home,’” she said.

She’s served in several roles at VAC over the years including as a member, volunteer, volunteer coordinator and most recently, as an oil painting instructor.

Pica discussed more about the art center’s role in the community as well as what most inspires her art in this Q & A which as been edited for clarity.

How important is VAC to this community? The Venice Art Center plays a major and vital role in promoting a sense of community through its extensive offerings of social events and educational opportunities in a welcoming and supportive environment. It’s a great place to become a part of the Venice community by volunteering or making new friends by taking a class.
