PREP ROUNDUP: Venice girls golf has strong week; boys golf beats Sarasota, NP

The Venice girls golf team had a strong week, winning two of the three events they competed in.

Last Saturday, head coach Cary Wilgren and his group walked away with a victory at the Founders Club Tournament in Sarasota behind a team score of 382. The Indians managed to upend Riverview (386) by four strokes and Cardinal Mooney (406) by 24 strokes at the Founders Golf Club.

Individually, Ella Gardner had the best finish for Venice, shooting a 76. Camryn Davis was next with an 89, while Vanessa Rieger shot a 99.

On Tuesday, the Indians dropped a match to a very good Lakewood Ranch team, despite shooting a respectable 185 as a squad.

Without Gardner, Rieger was Venice’s top score after the freshman shot a 41. Davis finished the nine holes with a 43, while Aubree Decraene cracked the 50-stroke mark with a 48.

The team finished the week with a match win over Riverview at Capri Isles in Venice, beating the Rams by 10 strokes with a team score of 181.

Gardner was back, topping the field with a score of 36 (two birdies). Riegler shot a 41, Davis managed a 47, while Sydney Jackson and Decraene both shot a 57.
