Tornado warning issued for Sarasota area

Take cover, a tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay Ruskin at 7:01 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26. That includes the following counties: DeSoto, Hardee and Manatee.

The NWS recommends: “TAKE COVER NOW! If your home is flooded, avoid flood waters. If possible, take shelter in an interior room. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.”

At 7:01 a.m., the NWS issued a statement: TORTBW The National Weather Service in Ruskin has issued a Tornado Warning for… Southwestern Hardee County in central Florida… East central Manatee County in west central Florida… Northwestern DeSoto County in south central Florida… Until 7:30 a.m. EDT. At 7:01 a.m. EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 9 miles west of Arcadia, moving northwest at 45 mph.
