Retired Navy officer, security expert to speak at luncheon

Bryan Gerard McGrath, a retired Navy officer, graduate of the U.S. Naval War College, and author of the Navy’s 2007 Maritime Strategy “A Cooperative Strategy for 21st Century Seapower,” will be the guest speaker at a luncheon hosted by the Sarasota Manatee Council of the Navy League on Oct. 3 at Laurel Oak Country Club in Sarasota.

McGrath, an appointee to the House Armed Services Committee’s National Commission on the Future of the Navy, will discuss the impact of the Navy’s new “NAVPLAN” and explain why ships and shipbuilding investment are critical to maintaining the nation’s defense and global economic security.

“It’s imperative that we recognize the urgent need to grow the fleet,” McGrath says. “Given escalating global tensions and the nation’s growing defense needs, the Navy must get bigger, more ready, and more lethal, all at once. I look forward to sharing ideas and drawing on insights from the Sarasota community and Sarasota-Manatee Council of the Navy League.”
