SMH skilled-nursing makes U.S. News list

SARASOTA — Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has been recognized in U.S. News’ annual “Best Nursing Homes” ratings for both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care.

Less than 20% of the nation’s 15,000-plus skilled-nursing facilities received one of the two rankings. SMH’s skilled-nursing facility earned both, a news release stated.

“These awards truly reflect the care, compassion and commitment our staff display, day after day, and year after year, to ensure our residents and their families enjoy the most comfortable and healing environment possible,” Maria DeCarlo, vice president of Sarasota Memorial Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Services, said in the release.

Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 5640 Rand Blvd., offers skilled nursing and rehabilitation for about 100 residents recovering from surgery, injury or illness 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it stated.

To compile its rankings, U.S. News evaluates infection rates; staffing levels; health inspection results; the number of residents taken to the ER or hospitalized; and other indicators of quality, according to the release.
