17-year-old arrested in connection with St. Petersburg homicide

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida — A 17-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal shooting at an apartment complex. The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. on December 18 at TGM Bay Isles apartments, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.Officers responded to the scene at 11850 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St N and discovered 15-year-old Tomohnd Newkirk with a gunshot wound. Newkirk was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect, Zymere Darden-Williams, age 17, has been arrested and charged in connection with the homicide. The investigation remains ongoing, stated the St. Petersburg Police Department. Report #2024-044287.
