BRADENTON, Florida — A 14-year-old male was arrested after jumping into Cedar Hammock Creek while attempting to flee from a vehicle burglary scene early Monday morning, according to authorities. Deputies responded to reports of three males trying to enter unlocked cars in the area of 28th Avenue West and 14th Street West.The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on December 23, 2024, when a vehicle owner witnessed the suspects rummaging through his pickup truck. He alerted a neighbor, and together they confronted the suspects, who then fled. One suspect attempted to hide in tall grass before jumping into the creek. The vehicle owner and his neighbor used flashlights to keep track of the suspects until deputies arrived, stated the Manatee Sheriff’s Office.Deputies found the 14-year-old suspect trying to conceal himself under bushes along the creek’s edge. After a brief standoff, he complied with commands to surrender and was taken into custody. Another 14-year-old male, soaked and shivering, was found a few blocks away and taken to a local hospital for a leg injury, likely sustained during the escape. Detectives are still reviewing evidence, and the second suspect has not been arrested. The third individual remains at large, and detectives are investigating multiple vehicle burglaries from the previous weekend to determine any connections.The juvenile has been charged with Unoccupied Conveyance, a third-degree felony. The investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
