Sarasota father hopes son taken hostage by Hamas will be released as part of ceasefire

TAMPA, Fla. — After 467 agonizing days — there is a deal for a ceasefire in the war in Gaza.

It took months of intense negotiations, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the final details are still being worked out. But the plan includes the release of hostages and bodies held in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas militants attacked Israel, killing more than a thousand people and taking hostages back into Hamas-controlled territory.

The first phase is set to begin on Sunday; over the course of a six-week pause in fighting, 33 hostages, including Americans, will be released in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners…
