Plan for North Venice Publix approved

VENICE — By a 3-2 vote Wednesday, the Venice City Council upheld the Planning Commission’s decision to approve a site-and-development plan for Village at Laurel and Jacaranda, a future Publix shopping center.

Council Member Rick Howard was absent and Council Member Rachel Frank had to leave the meeting before the final vote.

Whether the decision brings an end to the effort to keep the shopping center from being built is uncertain until the time for Gary Scott, who had challenged the Commission’s decision, to file an appeal in the Circuit Court expires…
