First Alert Weather: A rather calm weather week ahead

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The jet stream will continue with a mostly west-to-east motion today and remain relatively flat. Surface high pressure will persist, bringing light winds and sunny skies. Gradually throughout the day, an upper-level trough of low pressure will develop to our west and slowly approach the area. Its surface reflection will be a cool front that advances slowly toward the Suncoast. As the surface high shifts eastward and crosses the peninsula, it will settle near the Atlantic waters. This overall atmospheric pattern will turn our winds more southeasterly and lead to a gradual increase in humidity later today — but not for long.

A cold front will move through late Tuesday. Despite today’s increase in humidity, the air will remain dry enough for the front to pass without producing showers or even a significant uptick in winds. On Wednesday, winds will shift to the north, and a second push of drier air will move in to finish off the workweek. While little to no cooler air will follow the front, the drier air will allow Wednesday night temperatures to dip into the upper 50s…
