Man, wife found dead in Sarasota yard after apparent murder-suicide, deputies say

SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation Wednesday after an elderly man and his wife were both found dead in the front yard of a home.

Detectives received a 911 call around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and soon found the couple lying unresponsive in the lawn of a home on Treymore Court in Sarasota.

According to the sheriff’s office, Anthony Evans, 89, and his wife, Lois Evans, 88, had both suffered a single gunshot wound. A small handgun was also found next to Anthony Evans’ body.

Those factors and a note uncovered during the investigation have led authorities to believe the incident may have been a murder-suicide. Detectives said the note indicated the shooting was “premeditated.”…
