Property owners along the Legacy Trail corridor have until May 14 to file for compensation from the federal government for land seized in 2017 and later converted into the Legacy Trail for hiking and biking under the National Trails Act of 1983.
Attorney Lindsay Brinton of St. Louis-based Lewis Rice LLC said that 25 property owners have not filed a claim for compensation for abandoned railroad right of way that, if not for the 1983 federal law, would have reverted to their ownership.
The most recent claim settled by Lewis Rice occurred last summer, when three property owners received almost $460,000 , including Mullet’s Aluminum Design Center on McIntosh Road and two residential property owners…
