PORT CHARLOTTE — A motorist pulled over for a traffic stop pulled out a gun and killed himself after the officer noticed the weapon.
The suicide occurred Friday evening when a North Port police officer began conducting a traffic stop that began in North Port city limits but ended just over the Charlotte County line near Eppinger Drive and Palmer Avenue in Port Charlotte.
“As the NPPD officer approached the vehicle, he observed the driver had a firearm in his hand,” a Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office news release stated. “The officer immediately backed away and began to give commands to the driver, who placed the weapon to his own head and pulled the trigger.”…
