FWC investigates reports of tampering with sea turtle nest on Bradenton Beach

BRADENTON BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating after witnesses saw a group of people tampering with a sea turtle nest on Bradenton Beach.

It started around sunset on July 9, according to the witnesses who were vacationing in the area. They reported what they saw to FWC and said they were told not to approach the people tampering with the nest.

“We saw them digging and poking it with the little plastic shovels and adults were there with the kids and it just kind of went on and on. They were touching them, handling them, I don’t know how many they carried to the water, but I know a couple of the adults we’re carrying them, digging them up and carrying them to the water knee-deep,” said visitor Lisa Harrison…
