Rain continues to fall as possible tropical system moves into Gulf

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A low-pressure center will continue moving westward across Gulf waters today. The low will possibly develop tropical characteristics in several days as it tracks toward the northern Gulf Coast. Wherever it ends up will be the location of heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Currently, it could make landfall anywhere from the northern Gulf Coast to Texas. Barring any unexpected changes in its direction, the system will have little impact on the Suncoast, other than enhancing rain chances and bringing breezy conditions for several days.

Today, tomorrow, and possibly Friday, rain chances will remain high—around 70% to 80%. Timing of the storms will be slightly different than we see on a typical summer day. Rain chances will tend to start a bit earlier in the day and linger a bit later into the evening as the amount of moisture in the atmosphere remains higher than normal. We are not looking at rainouts, but rather several waves possible each day. For today, some storms will be capable of downpours that could cause minor street flooding. However, the risk of that is smaller than it was yesterday…
