SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – High pressure is moving in from the west, dominating the atmosphere at both the surface and the upper levels. This means fewer clouds in the sky and the summer’s highest temperatures so far.
Highs will reach the mid-90s throughout the region on Saturday, with afternoon temperatures coming close to 100 in inland areas. Slightly lower dew points in the low to mid-70s will likely keep heat indices from rising to Heat Advisory levels, but expect feels-like temperatures between 105 and 110 degrees.
Take extra care if you’re spending time outside this weekend. Temperatures will already be at or above 90 degrees by late morning, so make sure to hydrate early and often. Your body can overheat quickly, so find shade when you can, and avoid any strenuous physical activity in the heat of the day. As always, wear sunscreen, and make sure to reapply it frequently.
The high pressure will bring some very dry upper-level air. Despite easterly winds that would typically favor storm development along the coast, the presence of high pressure at all levels of the atmosphere will keep a lid on any rising air, stopping storms from developing.
