Sarasota police urge residents to be vigilant after vacation rental break-ins

SARASOTA, Fla (WFLA) — In the last few months, the Sarasota Police Department has responded to reports of trespassing and burglaries at vacation homes on the barrier islands.

Officer Helios Blanco first sent a message to business and homeowners associations in early June asking for residents to secure their properties and to call 911 if they see suspicious activity.

Earlier this month, he sent another message explaining trespassers are hosting parties at vacant vacation homes. In one case, police arrived to the home to find more than 100 teens and young adults fleeing the scene.
