We’ve spent enough on Benderson Park. It’s time for donors to show the money. | Opinion

The Sarasota County Commission recently agreed to move forward to construct a grandiose sports facility on Regatta Island at Nathan Benderson Rowing Park – with a price tag of up to $70 million.

One commissioner referred to the plan, which calls for a public-private partnership, as a “stunning” opportunity for the county and community.

What’s “stunning” is that Sarasota County residents have been waiting since 2013 for Benderson Park Foundation/SANCA – now known as the Nathan Benderson Park Conservancy – to finally deliver the private millions to fund the boathouse and grandstands that were promised for the 2017 World Rowing Championships…
