FHP: Driver arrested for going 122mph in Manatee County

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – The new ‘Super Speeder’ law went into effect on July 1st. It allows law enforcement to arrest drivers going 50 miles per hour over the speed limit, or those driving over 100 miles per hour. ABC7 wanted to find out if these ‘Super Speeders’ have been caught on the Suncoast.

Senior Trooper Kenn Watson from the Florida Highway Patrol said last month FHP caught a driver speeding through Sarasota and Manatee Counties going 122 miles per hour. They were arrested and their car was impounded.

But even as recent as Wednesday morning, Trooper Watson said FHP made an arrest after catching a man driving 105 miles per hour near Charlotte County. Watson said that man did not have a license and was not a citizen…
