Police train for high-risk missions in Sarasota Bay

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Several units of the Sarasota Police Department participated in training exercises near the Marina Jack’s Yacht basin recently.

The department’s SWAT team, along with the marine unit and K-9 teams joined forces for training on Sarasota Bay. “With responsibility for both our City of Sarasota, government streets and nearly 9.5 miles of shoreline, our officers have to be ready for anything, on land or water,” the department said on Facebook.

The Marina Jack Yacht Basin and LeBarge Tropical Cruises lent their vessels to police for the training, which focused on high-risk scenarios on the water including a hostage situation on a tour boat, a possible suspect fleeing to a nearby island and survival skills with full gear in the water…
